Nervous Bowling Ball
Project type
Animation
Date
June 2025
Location
Blender
This short animation follows a nervous bowling ball as it prepares to take the shot. Despite having no facial features, the ball conveys emotion through exaggerated body language, timing, and squash-and-stretch principles. From its hesitant wiggle to the dramatic release, every movement was carefully animated to give it personality and charm.
I handled every aspect of the pipeline: modeling, texturing, lighting, animation, and compositing. To give it a nostalgic edge, I added CRTV-style post-processing with lens distortion, glare, and chromatic aberration in Blender’s compositor.
This project was a fun and challenging exercise in expressive animation without dialogue or facial rigs, and it draws inspiration from the chaotic bowling animations we all remember from the 2000s.
